Love in a Box
Thank you for the boxes already received. All boxes need to be at school by the end of Thursday 11 November ready for collection on Friday morning.
Save Energy Fortnight
This is National Save Energy Fortnight. We shall be giving the children stickers and talking about ways to save energy in Assembly. The message is switch off! Hopefully Polesden Lacey’s small eco warriors will be encouraging you to do this.
Snack Swapper
All the children will be bringing home a ‘snack swapper’. This is part of the National Food for Life campaign to encourage healthy eating. We hope that you will enjoy doing these with your children.
Poppy Day
Poppies are available to purchase at school. This appeal links well with our Year 2 History topic on the meaning of Remembrance Day. If you would like your child to buy a poppy send a small donation to school.
Hippo Water Savers Competition
Please see the attached flyer for a national competition. If your child would like to enter please bring entries to school by Friday 20 November.
Cash for Schools
We have, once more, been shortlisted for the cash for schools award in the local paper. Thank you to Mrs Whetstone once again for preparing our bid. We have been lucky enough to win first prize during the last 2 years. This has given us over £2,000 to establish the sensory garden and yellow pathway to the garden. This year we are asking for money to repaint our playground markings and to have ‘our values’ painted onto the playground as a permanent reminder. To win the money we will need your votes, so please look out for information in the next few weeks telling you how to vote.
School Dinners
The recent consultation on beef in school dinners showed that one parent wanted the school to remain beef free. The cook is able to cater for individual preference and therefore beef will be introduced as part of the menu from next week. Any children who already have a vegetarian meal will continue to do so.
SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning)
This half terms theme is ‘Getting On and Falling Out’. The children will be exploring friendship and the best ways of learning together. To support this theme, pupils in Year 1 and 2 may bring home worksheets to complete at home with you. These are optional and do not need to be returned to school.
The Values Tree
The new theme is ‘Respect’. We shall be talking to the children about this next week.
Green Team and Christmas Cards
The Green Team have been working hard to try to solve the problem caused by the rubbish left over at Christmas and have written to the children as follows:
Dear Children,
We have been working together to think of ideas to stop so much rubbish being left after Christmas. We had this idea for Christmas cards.
- Instead of sending everyone in the class a card, send 1 big card to go on a special board in the classroom (we have asked the teachers if this is OK).
- If you still want to send lots of cards, try using last years cards by cutting the front off and folding it or use old scraps of card and wrapping paper to decorate them.
- After Christmas keep all your cards to use next year to make cards and labels.
We hope you like our ideas.
Love from the Green Team
