Break time snacks and drinks

Snacks
We subscribe to the fruit and vegetable scheme so that all children can enjoy a piece of fruit or vegetable before playtime each day.

Drinks

Children should bring their named school drink bottle each day. It should only be filled with water. It may be refilled during the school day from the newly installed filtered water tap in each class room. We encourage all children to drink regularly.

School lunches

You may choose to use our School Meals Service or send your child with a home-packed lunch each day. Please provide two weeks written notice if you wish to change from school meals to home-packed lunch.

School Meals Service

School lunches are provided at a cost of £1.55 per day. These meals are healthy, nutritionally balanced, attractively presented and are prepared and cooked on the premises by our caterer. There are menus and more details on the "My School Lunch" website, available via our links button.

Parents can monitor the quality of our lunches personally as we invite them to share lunch with their children in the autumn and spring terms.

If your child has real dislikes or allergies, please let the office staff have a written note about it. We cater for vegetarian and other dietary needs. Parents are welcome to discuss any specific dietary requirements with the school caterer.

We offer two formats: a
two course cooked meal or, if you prefer, a school-packed lunch. The menu for the current week is displayed on the School Office window.

The Surrey Services section on our Links page contains an entry for the MySchoolLunch website, which provides more information about Surrey's School Meals Service, together with sample menus.

Payment School meals must be paid for in advance; credits for a child's absence will be carried forward. We prefer payments to be made on a half term or termly basis by cheque made payable to Surrey County Council with a cheque guarantee card number on the back. Alternatively you may pay online via Surrey County Council's website. Please see the Surrey Services section on our Links page.

If payment for meals is made on a weekly basis, it should be sent in a sealed envelope with your child's name and class on it and handed in to the class teacher on Monday morning. If a child is absent on a Monday morning, the appropriate amount of money should be handed in to the school office on the first morning of his/her return to school.

Home-Packed Lunches

If you prefer, you may provide your child with a packed lunch. These must be supplied in an insulated lunchbox. We ask that sweets and chocolate are not included. Some children have a peanut allergy and for this reason we ask that peanut butter is avoided.

Assemblies

Our End of Term Assemblies are your chance to hear our talented and enthusiastic singers and actors in action.

There are about 45 minutes of catchy, toe-tapping tunes and drama performed by individual classes and by the whole school. You'll probably hear a few previews in the run up to the big day!

Please remember that, whilst the children love their younger siblings, their chatter can be distracting. If you bring younger children, please don't let them steal the limelight. SIT OR STAND WELL AWAY FROM THE PERFORMERS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ANY LIVELY ONES OUTSIDE UNTIL THEY CALM DOWN.

During our
Class Assemblies, which are shorter and more informal, a class will present a topic on which they have been working.

Absence from School

Good attendance at school is important for your child's education and establishes a positive working ethos early in life. 100% attendance is unlikely, but it is essential that the school is informed of the reasons for absence.

Under current government legislation, unauthorised absence is regarded as truancy and all absence figures have to be reported to the LA and the DCFS and ARE RECORDED ON YOUR CHILD'S ANNUAL REPORT.

For sickness

Please notify the school office by telephone on the first morning of absence and send a written note to the class teacher upon return to school.

For out of school dental and medical treatment

Please let the school office know in writing, in advance of the date and time of the appointment and when your child will be collected from and/ or returned to school.

Safe Routes To School

Our school supports Surrey County Council's Safe Routes to School Campaign. The initiative aims to make the journey from home to school safer and so encourage more pupils to travel to school on foot, by bike, or other forms of puff-power. Safety improvements may come through road improvements, road safety training, and promotional events (such as the Golden Boot and Walk to School week) and research.

We review safety issues jointly with neighbouring schools and have, over the years, introduced many improvements. If you have an issue you would like to raise, a view on how to improve routes to school, or safety related incidents, the Working Group can raise it with those who can address it. Please let us know through the school office.

There's also a Walking Bus that serves families with children at both Polesden Lacey Infants and The Dawnay schools. Now that the long awaited crossing has been installed, we hope to start another route between Polesden Lacey Infants and the Eastwick schools.
